Susan D. Ross, MD, FRCPC, is currently an independent consultant in Evidence-based Medicine, providing her unique expertise to clients engaged in the development and delivery of healthcare services and products. Dr. Ross was previously a co-founder of MetaWorks, an AHRQ Evidence-based Practice Center, in Boston. She led MetaWorks’ technical teams performing dozens of literature-based systematic reviews and meta-analyses, as well as in developing a proprietary database of data from published clinical trials. In recent years, her group extended its data sources and expertise to include real-world patient data from electronic medical record data warehouses, as well as more traditional administrative datasets. In 2006, MetaWorks was acquired by United BioSource Corporation, where Dr. Ross continued for a year as Vice President of Medical Affairs.
Prior to MetaWorks, Dr. Ross was a Vice President of Clinical Research at a biotech company in Boston, as well as an independent consultant to industry. Her clinical practice experience includes a stint in Internal Medicine at a Boston-area HMO, and a hospital-based practice in Toronto. The unifying theme of her career to date has been the development and utilization of better ways to harness the power of data for healthcare. To this end, she has nearly 60 scientific publications and 85 abstracts presented at professional meetings. She is also a peer-reviewer for several medical journals, and a frequent presenter at professional, industry, and academic forums.
Dr. Ross is a graduate of the advanced course in Biomedical Research Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. She graduated with honors in Medicine from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, and is board-certified in Internal Medicine in both Canada and the U.S., where she continues to treat patients in an Outpatient Clinic in Boston. |
